Stormplot

New

Between rounds you spend coins turning a bare plot into something that might hold. Then the round starts, the sky begins taking it apart with meteors and solar flares and worse, and the last one standing wins. Your blueprint is the save file; the round is a test of it.

Between rounds you build an island out of bought blocks and looted junk. Then the round starts, the sky begins taking it apart, and the last one standing wins.

The blueprint is the save file

Whatever you build persists as a blueprint and gets loaded back in at the start of each round. The round is a performance of it rather than a fresh start, so a bad build costs you repeatedly until you fix it.

Payouts scale both with what you placed and with how long you survived, which keeps building and surviving from becoming separate games.

Seventeen events, and they escalate

Meteor showers, solar flares, hurricanes, zombies, flying squids. Events arrive in tiers, and a tier four solar flare is not a tier one with a bigger number attached. Some objects simply will not survive the heat, and the game says so in as many words before it happens.

Two are worth knowing about early. The Eye tracks whichever island is currently richest and beams it, so being the best-built player in the round is itself a liability. Flying Squids paint everything they touch flat black and cost you nothing whatsoever except your colour scheme.

The real difficulty curve is not scale, it is overlap. From tier four the events start landing on top of one another, and a freeze followed by almost anything is a different problem from either of them alone.

Coins, crates and what they are for

Payout comes as coins and crates, and crates are opened during the build phase rather than mid-round, so opening one is never a distraction while the sky is falling.

Blocks bought with coins are the structure. Looted objects are the character. A plank wall keeps you alive; a table does not, and you will still place it.

How to play

  • WASD moves, the mouse builds and aims.
  • Number keys select from your hotbar. A repair hammer is worth carrying long after it stops feeling exciting.
  • Spend the build phase. Coins you are still holding when the round starts do nothing for you.
