Privacy Policy

Kao Games is a small site that hosts browser games we make ourselves. This page describes exactly what the site collects and why. It is written to match what the site actually does rather than to cover every possibility.

The short version

We have no accounts and no logins, and we never ask for your name, email address or any other personal detail. We do not sell or share data with anyone for marketing. The only things stored are a play counter, a thumbs up/down rating, and a few preferences kept in your own browser.

What we store, and where

Play counts and ratings

Each game shows how many times it has been played and the share of players who rated it positively. To stop one person inflating those numbers, we need to recognise a repeat visit without identifying you.

When you start a game or cast a vote, we take your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and the current hour, combine them with a secret value known only to our server, and run the result through a one-way SHA-256 hash. Only that hash is stored. It cannot be reversed into your IP address, it is different for every game and every hour, and it is deleted after six hours. Your raw IP address is never written to our database.

Your browser's own storage

A small amount of data is kept in your browser and never sent to us:

• Which game you have already counted a play for in this tab, so we do not send a pointless request.
• Whether you gave a game a thumbs up or down, so the buttons show your choice when you come back.
• Some games save your own progress and settings locally so you can pick up where you left off.

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes requests on our behalf and keeps standard security and traffic logs. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Advertising

The games are free and advertising is what pays for hosting them. Ads on this site are supplied by third-party advertising networks, which means the advert itself is served by that network rather than by us. We do not give those networks your name, email address or any account details, because we do not hold any.

• An advertising network may set its own cookies, or read a device identifier, in order to choose an advert, cap how often you see the same one, and detect fraud. That happens inside the advert's own frame and is governed by that network's privacy policy, not this one.
• Where Google is the vendor, it uses advertising cookies so that it and its partners can serve ads based on your visit to this and other sites.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info.
• Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland will be asked for consent through a Google-certified consent management platform before any personalised advertising cookies are set, and can decline without losing access to any game. Until a choice is made, advertising and analytics storage are set to denied by default.

Children

Our games are suitable for a general audience and some of them appeal to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age. Where advertising is served to an audience that may include children, it will be configured as non-personalised.

Your choices

• Clear your browser's site data to remove everything stored locally.
• Because we store no personal identifiers, we hold nothing that can be traced back to you to export or delete.

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top of this page will change and the new version will be published here before the change takes effect.
