Every discovery earns IQ, the professor asks for specific inventions along the way, and if you get stuck, IQ buys a hint. There are forty inventions to find in all.

Two at a time
You start with five supplies: water, fire, spark, gear and goo. Put any two in the mixer and you get something. The right pairs make inventions, and every invention joins your supplies, ready to be mixed into the next tier.
There are forty inventions in all, from simple ones to things the professor has only dreamed about.
Disasters count too
A pair that does not make an invention makes one of twelve disasters, always the same disaster for the same pair. Whiskers the lab cat tends to be standing in the wrong place when it happens. Finding a new disaster still earns a little IQ, so a wrong guess is never wasted.
IQ and hints
Each discovery earns IQ, and the professor will ask for specific inventions along the way, which pay extra. If you are stuck, spend IQ on a hint. Keep mixing the wrong things and the professor will eventually offer a nudge for free.
